Londoners are being urged to recycle more of their card packaging and Christmas wrapping paper during the festive season.

A staggering 300,000 tonnes of card packaging is estimated to be used across the UK during the festive season - so much in fact that it could wrap Big Ben almost 260,000 times or the London Eye almost 50,000 times.

Every London borough collects card and paper for recycling, so everyone can do their part to recycle this Christmas. All paper - including wrapping paper - is recyclable, apart from shiny metallic or glittery varieties.

If in doubt, try the 'scrunch test' - if you scrunch the paper into a ball and it stays scrunched, it can be recycled; if it pops back out again, it's likely to be made of metallic foil and probably can't be recycled.
