East London Waste Authority

ELWA is a statutory Joint Waste Disposal Authority (JWDA), responsible for the sustainable treatment and disposal of waste collected by the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham and Redbridge, along with the operation of four Reuse and Recycling Centres and a Waste Prevention Programme, designed to encourage more sustainable lifestyles to support a reduction in the amount of waste being created.

Through ELWA’s Waste Prevention Programme, the team deliver Repair Cafés across the four ELWA boroughs as well as supporting community lead repair events such as, South Woodford Repair Café, Wanstead Repair Café and Transition Town Ilford Repair Café. Working in collaboration with repair organisations such as, The Restart Project, Sew London, Fabrications, Joy Z, Caramel Rock, Cycle Confident and Trail Net, we are able to provide accessible electrical, textile and bicycle repairs within the community, allowing residents to gain repair skills and reduce waste.
