Through ELWA’s waste prevention programme we aim to support residents in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham and Redbridge reduce waste. Through repair cafes and Skillshares we aim to support residents build confidence in their skills and knowledge, providing practical opportunities to increase the life of items that little bit longer.

The Restart Project, ELWA and Havering are running a skillshare for electronic repairers of all skill levels. ⁠This session is directed at people who live locally and want to get involved in community repair in and around Havering. If you’d like to start volunteering at repair events as a fixer but don’t know where to start, this session is for you! ⁠Booking is essential.

Clothing Repair Drop-In

16th March, 11:00 – 13:00

ELWA, Recycle for your Community and Barking & Dagenham council are running a free drop in clothing repair session with the very talented Kemi from Sew London. Bring along two clothing items in need of repair and learn how to mend them as Kemi talks you through the repair process.

Repair Café

23rd March, 11:00 – 14:00

ELWA, Newham council and Recycle for your Community will be running a free repair café. Residents can bring along one item for repair. During the event, we will have electrical fixers from The Restart Project, Barley from Fabrications will be teaching you how to mend your damaged clothing and bicycle maintenance and repairs from Dr. Bike. What’s more, we’ll have a Team Repair Gadget workshop for 8+yrs and stick around to find out how you to can make the most of your food and reduce food waste with a workshop from Nutrition Kitchen.
