Library of Things is a social enterprise which helps communities save money and reduce waste by affordably renting out 30+ useful items like drills, sound systems and sewing machines.
Library of Things is on a mission to make rental better than buying for people and planet. We’re doing this by making it easy and affordable for communities to rent, rather than buy, the high-quality household items that we don’t need to use often. You can rent Items like drills, carpet cleaners, tents and pasta makers from local highstreet spaces like libraries, shopping centres and community hubs. We’re also helping neighbours share practical skills like DIY and repair with others in their communities.
Library of Things was founded by Emma Shaw, Rebecca Trevalyan and Sophia Wyatt in 2016. Inspired by similar projects emerging in cities like Berlin and Toronto, we’re a women-led social enterprise and launched our first self-service kiosk in Crystal Palace in 2018.
You can now find a Library of Things on 17 highstreets across London, with more on the way this year! We’re also helping community groups and businesses to power rental themselves using our software.
