Hackney Council’s Zero Waste Hackney programme offers a variety of events aimed at assisting residents in minimising waste, curbing consumption, and saving money. The focus is on reducing, reusing, and repairing items rather than opting for new purchases.

As well as hosting a Zero Waste Hub for Repair Week which is highlighted in the question below, there are other ways we would like to get involved. Examples include:

  1. Repair Offerings in Hackney Wick: We are working with textile and bike repair businesses to offer free repair sessions to residents when they use code REPAIRWEEK24. The code will be valid from 26 Feb until 24 March 2024.
  2. Textiles Show and Tell: Our Environmental Education Officer will be working with the Reclaimery to host a workshop in a primary school. This will take place on Wednesday 13 March. The workshop will show pupils how they can repair their items and also revamp them with a painting exercise.
  3. Communications Plan: We will be promoting the events above and Repair Week in general via our communications channels throughout March. Platforms include social media, newsletters and working with teams internally (economic development/resident participation) and externally (our partners such as Hackney Fixers, Forest Recycling Project etc) to get messages across.
  4. Partners such as Forest Recycling Project are keen to promote reusable paint discounts. We will also promote these initiatives on our channels.
