Welcome to the Monday Mending Club! Join us on the first Monday of each month for a evening of social sewing. It’s the perfect opportunity to chat, connect with new people, and make friends while giving your clothes a new lease on life.
We invite you to bring something to mend, and we share the tools and the know-how on how to get started. It’s an opportunity to make new friends, enjoy friendly chat and drink, whilst learning new skills in a relaxing environment.
The focus is on the meditative, life-enhancing joy of craft and being in the moment, whilst having fun sharing skills and just catching-up on life and supporting each other.
Walthamstow-based textile artist Mika Sembongi set up Monday Mending Club as a reaction to the climate crisis with an emphasis on positive action.
Since starting the club in February 2022, we have introduced complete beginners to both traditional invisible mending and the Japanese craft of Sashiko mending, where a repair is elaborated upon with creative stitching to transform the fault into a new, individual design to be worn with pride.
We mend clothes not because we can’t afford new clothes, but because we can’t afford to throw them away.
