Porcelain

Can it be recycled?

Porcelain can’t be recycled from home, but if you have any porcelain items, such as cups, saucers and plates, that are in good condition, you can donate them to charity or pass them on using platforms like Olio, Freecycle or Gumtree, to name just a few. If they’re beyond use, you’ll have to throw them in the bin, or you could use them for an upcycling project!

If you have porcelain fixtures, such as toilets, sinks and bathtubs that are cracked or badly chipped and cannot be re-purposed, you may be able to drop these off at your local tip (household waste and recycling centre).

To find out where your nearest tip is use our recycling locator tool or head on over to our services at a glance area, find your borough and scroll down to the map at the bottom of the page. To be safe, give the tip a call before heading over to make sure they accept this type of item.
