Information for each London borough

Give your beloved Christmas tree a second life! Recycle your real Christmas tree so it can be transformed into chippings or compost and used to enrich the soil in your local park.

Most councils in London will either collect your tree as part of your usual bin collection, or set up drop-off points. Have a look at our guide below to find out more about your local arrangements.

Don't forget!

Before recycling your Christmas tree, remember to remove all decorations, tinsel, stands and pots so they’re ready to reuse next year.

Arrangements by borough

Barking & Dagenham

Barking and Dagenham don’t have a collection service for Christmas trees in the borough but they have special drop-off points for real Christmas trees:

Barnet

Christmas tree collection

Real Christmas trees placed at the boundary of your property will be collected on on Saturday 10 January or Saturday 17 January 2026. Please ensure your real Christmas tree has all decorations and tree lights removed, is cut in half and put at the boundary of your property before 10 January.

Bexley

Christmas tree collection

Real Christmas trees can be collected for recycling via Bexley’s garden waste service. This service is suspended over the Christmas period and restarts Monday 5 January 2026.

Please remove all decorations, cut the tree in half and place it next to your garden waste bin ready for collection.

If you don’t have a garden waste subscription, you can take your tree to either one of two tips in the borough:

The Thames Road, Crayford and Maidstone Road, Foots Cray, sites are open 7.30am to 4pm. They are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day Please note: Foots Cray is closed on Wednesdays.

Brent

Christmas tree collection

If you are signed up to the garden waste service, you can cut your tree into pieces and place these in your green bin.

You can book a bulky waste collection and include your Christmas tree along with other items. The service costs £55 for up to five items.

Christmas tree drop off

You can take your tree directly to the Abbey Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, but keep in mind that this will be closed on will be closed on Tuesday, 23 December – Friday, 26 December and Thursday 1 January 2026.

Alternatively you can drop your tree off at various locations around Brent for free, available from Friday, 26 December 2025 – Saturday 17 January 2026. View the map of drop off points here.

 

Bromley

Christmas tree collection

Residents who are members of the green garden waste wheelie bin collection service can use this service to recycle their real Christmas trees. Trees must be put in the bins for recycling and broken down if necessary.

Bromley provides a free Christmas tree recycling service drop off for all residents at temporary sites around the borough.

Saturday 10 January, 11am to 4pm

Sunday 11 January, 8am to 12pm

  • Beckenham: Unicorn Primary School car park, Creswell Drive (off South Eden Park Road)

Camden

Christmas tree collection

If you’ve signed up to the garden waste service, your tree will be collected on your usual bin day. You’ll need to cut your tree up so that it can fit into your garden waste bin or bags.

If you don’t have a garden waste collection, you can take your tree to the temporary Christmas tree recycling points in the borough that will be open 2 to 11 January 2026.

Croydon

Christmas tree collection

The council will collect real Christmas trees from Monday 5 January to Friday 16 January.

You will need to:

  • put your tree out by Monday 5 January  we will collect it as soon as possible by Friday 16 January
  • remove all decorations, lights, pots, and stands
  • place your tree at the edge of your property, clearly visible from the road, without blocking pavements or access routes

If you use our garden waste collection service, you can cut your tree into smaller pieces and place it in your garden waste bin.

Information on Christmas tree recycling in the City of London for 2026 is not yet published. Please check the council website for more details.

Ealing

Christmas tree collection

Between Monday 5 January and Friday 23 January 2026, those who use the black and blue wheeled bins can leave their real trees on the front edge of their property for collection.

Trees will be collected on the same day as your revised rubbish collection (black bin) each alternate week.

Tree trunks must not exceed 20cm in diameter, or be more than six feet tall (taller trees can be cut in two). Please ensure all decorations are removed.

If you live in a flat or use a communal bin service you will have to take your real tree to one of the councils parks or open spaces. This runs until Friday 23 January 2026.

If you subscribe to the garden waste collection service:

  • If your tree is taller than 6ft, cut it into smaller pieces to keep our collection staff safe

North London Hospice offers free Christmas tree recycling in selected Enfield postcodes. This is the second year they have run this service.

The council can collect your tree as part of your weekly collection. Just place the tree in your green top food and garden waste bin.

Christmas tree collection

If you are subscribed to the garden waste service, the collection team will collect your Christmas tree on your regular garden waste collection day. After removing decorations, place your tree at the front of your property by 6am

If you live in a block with garden waste collections, place your tree next to the garden waste bin making sure you do not block access to the bins

You can also arrange a collection through the bulky waste service from 29 December.

If you normally get an on-street rubbish collection, simply leave your tree where you’d leave your rubbish.

Please make sure your tree is clearly visible and not obstructing the pavement

Please put your tree out for collection before 7am on your regular collection day between Monday 5 January and Friday 23 January 2026.

Haringey

Christmas tree collection
Street collections

We can collect your tree for free. Leave the tree in a visible and accessible location in your front garden on collection day, ideally next to your bin(s). Our food/garden waste collection crews will pick it up.

Trees over 3 feet long (1 metre) should be cut in half otherwise we cannot collect them, as they will damage the vehicles.

Communal bins

Leave your tree next to your communal waste container. You can do this until the end of January.

Trees over 3 feet long (1 metre) should be cut in half.

If you live in a block with a communal chute, please do not put your Christmas tree down the chute.

You can take your tree to designated sites in the following parks from 26 December 2025 to 12 January 2026:

  • Bruce Castle Park – staff depot near Lordship Lane entrance
  • Downhills Park – Downhills Park Road/Keston Road entrance
  • Finsbury Park – Endymion Road entrance (on left of entry)
  • OR Tambo Recreation Ground – Bidwell Gate (backing onto Sunshine Garden Centre)
  • Priory Park – at the old bowling green, Priory Road main entrance

You can take your tree to Haringey’s reuse and recycling centre in Wood Green.

The Gardens community garden will have a Christmas tree recycling point where you can recycle your whole tree from Saturday 3 January to Saturday 24 January 2026, 9am to 4pm.

Harrow

Christmas tree collection

This year, Harrow are supporting St Luke’s Hospice’s Christmas tree Initiative. St Luke’s Hospice’s will pick up your real Christmas tree from your doorstep between 10th – 11th January 2026.

A donation of £15 to St Luke’s Hospice to support palliative and end of life care in our community is encouraged for your collection.

Collection places are limited with registrations closing on Wednesday, 7 January 2026. Book here.

Garden waste subscribers can place real Christmas trees in their garden waste bin. Please remove decorations and chop the tree up.

The council will collect Christmas trees on rubbish and recycling collection days from Friday 2 January 2026 to Friday 16 January 2026.

Before we collect it, make sure you:

  • know your rubbish and recycling collection days
  • put it out before 7am on your rubbish and recycling collection day
  • remove the pots and any decorations
  • place the tree where it’s clearly visible and doesn’t obstruct the pavement

To get your real Christmas tree collected, leave it next to your bins on your collection day from 5 January 2026.

You must:

  • remove your tree from any pot you may have
  • remove all decorations, as these cannot be recycled

Trees take up a lot of space, so we can only collect a limited number each day.

If your tree is not collected, please take it back in and leave it next to your bins again on your next collection day.

Estates

If you live on an estate, please leave your real Christmas tree by the bin areas or bulky waste collection areas.

If you have a garden waste subscription, you can recycle your tree as part of your usual collection. Just cut it into pieces no bigger than 10cm thick and 50cm long.

Christmas tree collection

Put your real Christmas tree out by Put your tree out by 6am on Tuesday 6 January 2026 and it will be collected as soon as possible.

Place it close to the front boundary of your property, visible to collection crews but not blocking the pavement.

If you live in a flat with shared bins, put your tree outside your bin store but don’t block access.

Alternatively, if you subscribe to the garden waste collection service, you can also cut it up and put it in your garden waste bin.

You can book a free Christmas tree collection from 23 December to 11 January 2026 by clicking here. Make sure you book a slot by 11 January and ensure that the tree is completely free of decorations, tinsel and lights.

Redbridge

Christmas tree collection

Collections can take place anytime between Monday 12 January and Friday 23 January 2026. 

 To ensure collection you must: 

  • Leave your tree at the boundary of your property by 6am on 12th January
  • Remove all decorations
  • Ensure your tree is clearly visible

There is no fee for the service, and no booking is required. Only real trees will be collected.

Haven House will be collecting Christmas trees for a small donation from Monday 5 January to Wednesday 7 January 2026. To book your collection, please visit Haven House website and secure your slot.

Richmond

Christmas tree collection

Christmas tree recycling collections will start from Monday 5 January 2026 and will run until Friday 16 January. Trees will be collected on the garden waste collection day for your street.

This service is free and you do not require a garden waste contract to have your tree collected and recycled.

Trees should be left out after 8pm on the day before the collection is due, and by 6am on the collection day. All trees must be presented in a front garden visible from the pavement (if you have one) or on the pavement by your entrance.

If you live in a flat, you can take your Christmas tree to one of these drop off points between Friday 26 December 2025 and Saturday 31 January 2026.

Christmas tree collection

The council will collect and recycle your real Christmas tree for free. Trees should not be taller than 5ft – you should chop any taller trees into smaller pieces.

Put your tree with your garden waste containers on collection day or reques a free collection if you do not have a garden waste collection. If you’re in a flat, it outside your block at the kerbside (not in with your communal bins)

Tower Hamlets

To recycle a real Christmas tree, residents in blocks of flats should contact their housing manager to find out about local arrangements. Those living in houses can leave their trees on the boundary of their property on their garden waste/food waste recycling day.

Christmas trees can also be taken to the Reuse and Recycling centre at Yabsley Street, E14 9RG.

Waltham Forest

If you have a kerbside brown bin collection, leave next to your brown bin on your collection day. You can also arrange a large item collection.

You can also take it to a recycling centre in Chingford or Walthamstow.

Wandsworth

Christmas tree collection

Christmas tree recycling collections will start from Monday 5 January 2026 and will run throughout the month.

Your tree will be collected on the same day as your rubbish and recycling, but by a different vehicle so this may not be at the same time as other collections.

Trees should be left out after 6.30pm on the day before the collection is due, and by 6.30am on the collection day.

Where to leave your tree

If you have a front garden – put your tree out for collection next to your rubbish and recycling bags, on your usual collection day – not on the street.

If you do not have a front garden –  put your tree just outside your front door on the pavement taking care not to block where people walk.

If you live in a block of flats – leave your tree near to your rubbish or recycling bin store, making sure you do not block access to the bins.

You will also be able to take your tree to a drop-off point between Friday 26 December 2025 and Saturday 31 January 2026.

Westminster

Westminster has over 25 recycling points for real Christmas trees. You can take your tree to a drop-off point from the start of Saturday 27 December 2025 to the end of the day Sunday 11 January 2026.

Opening hours are 8am to 8pm unless they are in parks, which close at 4.30pm.

Please remove all decorations, stands and netting from the tree before bringing it to a recycling point. Trees taken to recycling points will be recycled and turned into woodchip and soil improver.
