Give your beloved Christmas tree a second life! Recycle your real Christmas tree so it can be transformed into chippings or compost and used to enrich the soil in your local park.
Most councils in London will either collect your tree as part of your usual bin collection, or set up drop-off points. Have a look at our guide below to find out more about your local arrangements.

Before recycling your Christmas tree, remember to remove all decorations, tinsel, stands and pots so they’re ready to reuse next year.

Christmas tree collection
Real Christmas trees placed at the boundary of your property will be collected on Saturday 11 or Saturday 18 January 2025. Please ensure your real Christmas tree has all decorations and tree lights removed, is cut in half and put at the boundary of your property by 6am.

Bexley
Christmas tree collection
If you’ve signed up to the garden waste service, your tree will be collected from Monday 5 January 2025 onwards.
You’ll need to cut your tree in half and place it next to your garden waste bin on collection day.
Christmas tree drop off
If you don’t have a garden waste subscription, you can take your tree to either one of two tips in the borough:
Thames Road in Crayford and Maidstone Road in Foots Cray. The council is operating a traffic control system based on odd and even number plates at both sites. Make sure you read the rules for visiting here before going.

Bromley
Christmas tree collection
Residents who are members of the green garden waste wheelie bin collection service can use this service to recycle their real Christmas trees. Trees must be put in the bins for recycling and broken down if necessary.

Bromley provides a free Christmas tree recycling service drop off for all residents at temporary sites around the borough.

If you’ve signed up to the garden waste service, your tree will be collected on your usual bin day. You’ll need to cut your tree up so that it can fit into your garden waste bin or bags.

If you don’t have a garden waste collection, you can take your tree to the temporary Christmas tree recycling points in the borough that will be open Thursday 2 January – Sunday 12 January 2025.

The council can collect your tree from your home for free! Put your tree out by Monday 6th January and it will be collected as soon as possible.

Ealing
Christmas tree collection
Between Monday 6 January and Friday 24 January 2025, those who use the black and blue wheeled bins can leave their real trees on the front edge of their property for collection.
Trees will be collected on the same day as your revised rubbish collection (black bin) each alternate week. Tree trunks must not exceed 20cm in diameter, or be more than six feet tall (taller trees can be cut in two).

If you live in a flat or use a communal bin service you will have to take your real tree to one of the councils parks or open spaces. This runs until Friday 24 January 2025.

Enfield
Christmas tree collection
If you have subscribed to the garden waste collection service, you can place your real Christmas tree out for collection on your scheduled garden waste collection day. You must remove all decorations, pots and turf from your tree as these cannot be recycled. If your tree is taller than 6ft, please cut it into smaller pieces (otherwise it cannot be collected) or take it to one of the parks listed below.
This year North London Hospice are introducing a free Christmas tree recycling service to selected postcodes in Enfield. For more information visit North London Hospice.

If you are subscribed to the garden waste service, the collection team will collect your Christmas tree on your regular garden waste collection day. After removing decorations, place your tree at the front of your property by 6am
If you live in a block with garden waste collections, place your tree next to the garden waste bin making sure you do not block access to the bins
You can also arrange a collection through the bulky waste service from 27 December.

Street collections
We can collect your tree for free. Leave the tree in a visible and accessible location in your front garden on collection day, ideally next to your bin(s). Our food/garden waste collection crews will pick it up.
Trees over 3 feet long (1 metre) should be cut in half otherwise we cannot collect them, as they will damage the vehicles.
Communal bins
Leave your tree next to your communal waste container. You can do this until the end of January.
Trees over 3 feet long (1 metre) should be cut in half.
If you live in a block with a communal chute, please do not put your Christmas tree down the chute.

If you live in a flat, collections are available between Monday 6 and Friday 17 January – email wastesupervisor@hillingdon.gov.uk to book. Trees should be placed next to your bin store or collection point for waste bins, ensuring access to the bins is not blocked. Please do not put trees inside the communal bins.

Hounslow
Christmas tree collection
The council are collecting from Monday 6 January to Friday 17 January on the scheduled garden waste collection week for your road. This will same day, but the alternate week, as your usual scheduled black wheelie bin (rubbish) collection. You can use this table to find your Christmas tree collection day.
The council only collect Christmas trees from properties that have a black wheelie bin collection. If you live in a flat, please contact your managing agent or resident association. They need to arrange a single bulk collection of Christmas trees at their development or block of flats through us. They should email customerservice@hounslow.gov.uk.

From Friday 20 December 2024 to Friday 24 January 2025 you can drop your real Christmas tree off for free at a designated collection point.

Kensington & Chelsea
Christmas tree collection
If you live in a house/flat in a house, the council will collect your Christmas treee on your rubbish and recycling collection day, between Thursday 2 January and Friday 17 January 2025.
If you live on an estate, in a mansion block or in flats, and use communal bins and mixed recycling banks, you can take your real tree to the Christmas tree recycling points listed below.
Alternatively, your housing provider may also have a separate collection in place. You can check with your caretaker or property manager and make sure to ask if the trees will be composted, and won’t be thrown away as rubbish.

Christmas tree collection
The council’s real Christmas tree collection service will operate from Monday 6 January to Friday 17 January. We aim to recycle as many trees as possible.
Put your tree out on your scheduled general and garden waste collection day during this 2 week period. Place your tree as close to the front boundary of your property, visible to the collection teams and not blocking the pavement.
If you live in a flat, place your tree outside the bin store but do not block access to it.
If you have a garden waste subscription, cut it up and place it in your garden waste recycling bin.

You can recycle your tree as part of your food and garden waste collection (if this is part of your standard service). Simply leave out for collection on your usual bin day.

Christmas tree collection
The council are offering a free collection service for real Christmas trees from Tuesday 2 January.
To have your real Christmas tree collected it must not be larger than 6 foot / 1.8 metres and the stem no bigger than 4 inches / 10 cm
For houses with two-wheeled bins
Please place the tree out the evening before your brown garden waste bin collection day and ensure the tree is within the boundary of your property and visible to the crew from the road. To find out when the brown bin collection day is, use the ‘find out when your bin should be collected button above’.
Please do not place the real Christmas tree inside of the brown bin.
For communal properties with communal bins
Please book a real Christmas tree collection using your My Account. Your tree will be collected from the communal bin area.
For properties on a sack collection
If you are on a thrice weekly sack collection service please book a real Christmas tree collection using your My Account.

Wandsworth
Christmas tree recycling collections will start from Monday 6 January 2025 and will run throughout the month.
Christmas tree collection
Your tree will be collected on the same day as your rubbish and recycling, but by a different vehicle so this may not be at the same time as other collections.
Trees should be left out after 6.30pm on the day before the collection is due, and by 6.30am on the collection day.
Where to leave your tree
If you have a front garden – put your tree out for collection next to your rubbish and recycling bags, on your usual collection day – not on the street.
If you do not have a front garden – put your tree just outside your front door on the pavement taking care not to block where people walk.
If you live in a block of flats – leave your tree near to your rubbish or recycling bin store, making sure you do not block access to the bins.

Westminster has over 25 recycling points for real Christmas trees. You can take your tree to a drop-off point from the start of Thursday 26 December 2024 to the end of the day Sunday 19 January 2025. Opening hours are 8am to 8pm unless they are in parks, which close at 4.30pm.
